The Taste of Innocence
The innocence of that child still enthralls me,
I began to wish, I were a child again.
The bits of biscuit she ate revived my jealousy,
It wasn’t the taste of it, but the taste of innocence.
When she danced to the tune of her mother’s ringtone,
I wished I had the will to dance when I wanted.
But when I searched through the pages of my heart,
I realized that the child inside, had long lost its innocence.
She waved a ‘tata’ when the time came for her to leave,
With all the innocence left in me, I waved one back too.
What I see nowadays, is looks of suspicion all around,
How much I would give to get back that smile of innocence.
